RENO AIR SHOW TO BE SITE OF 2006 NATIONAL AVIATION HERITAGE INVITATIONAL

Chantilly, VA. - The National Aviation Heritage Invitational has enjoyed eight years of working with the historical aircraft community and bringing the skills of that group to the attention of the aviation world through our events in Dayton and Reno.

Traditionally, the Eastern Region competition has been held during the Dayton Air Show, which is held annually within a few weeks of the EAA Oshkosh event. This year, the Dayton event is scheduled for July 29-30, the same weekend as the EAA event. Since both events regularly call on this restoration community to participate, we understand the difficulty in drawing these aircraft to both events.

Due to the logistically conflicts between these two major aviation events, the National Aviation Heritage Invitational Eastern Region will not occur this year.

As a result the efforts of the planning committee at NAHI will focus on the Reno Air Show in September for the National Aviation Heritage Invitational. With these concentrated efforts, we hope to have the largest participation the event has ever experienced.

The National Aviation Heritage Invitational encourages preservation of aviation history through the restoration of aircraft to original flying condition. The Invitational is a joint effort under the partnership of Rolls-Royce North America, the National Aviation Hall of Fame, the Smithsonian National Air and Space Museum and the Reno Air Racing Foundation and was founded in 1998. A five-member panel, including representatives of the National Air and Space Museum, judges each aircraft on its technical merit and how well it represents the aircraft early in its career. Authenticity to the original manufacturer's condition is the "gold standard" for each plane.
